Barton Frohlich, age 74, of Galena, Maryland, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 26, 1949, at Lexington Hospital in Manhattan, Bart was the son of the late Rene A. and Mary Donahue Frohlich. He graduated from Alfred G. Berner High School in Massapequa Park, New York, in 1967, and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in English from Harpur College, now Binghamton University, on a full academic scholarship.  Bart had a successful career in aircraft and aerospace manufacturing, first at Fairchild Republic, where he worked on the tail section of a space shuttle, and later as an manufacturing engineer, working for twenty-seven years with The Boeing Company.

Bart was a devoted husband to his wife of forty-two years, Mary Jo Frohlich, and a loving father to his two children, Dustin Frohlich and Emma Sue (Frohlich) Webb. He was immensely fond of his children's spouses, Maria Frohlich and Jason Webb, and a doting grandfather to his two grandchildren, Zoey Frohlich and Harrison Webb, who brought him immense joy in his later years.

He is survived by his wife, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren, his sister Cyn-Dee Frohlich, his brother Rodger Frohlich, and their families.

In his free time, Bart enjoyed writing, recording, and performing his original songs and those of his favorite artists in the American folk tradition. As a young man, he traveled extensively in the US, hitchhiking across the country twice, and in later years, he traveled to multiple European countries with his wife, Mary Jo. He enjoyed hiking and camping trips with his family and studying the history and geography of his travel destinations. He loved studying maps of the waterways of the Eastern Shore of Maryland where he and Mary Jo lived in retirement. At home, Bart was fond of wordplay and humor, especially puns, watching Yankees baseball, sudoku and wordle puzzles, and attending concerts and other events.

An avid reader of fiction and nonfiction alike, Bart was especially fond of science fiction novels, and he amassed a collection of hundreds of titles. As a music lover, his record and CD collection was also voluminous, and he enjoyed digitizing these to create personalized playlists for his family.

In later years, Bart was especially delighted to spend time with his grandchildren, where his joyful, nurturing, and gentle spirit shined in his adoration of them.

Bart will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Two events will be held in Bart's memory: A prayer service will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, (Visitation 2:30 pm / Service 3pm / Reception to follow), at St. Dennis Church, Galena, MD, and a celebration of Bart's life will be held in May 2024 (location TBD). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to WHYY or the Christian Salcedo Music Scholarship Fund.
