Barbara Burke Hanson, 89 of Chestertown, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away at home on May 3, 2022.

Ms. Hanson was born on February 7, 1933 in Chicago, IL., daughter of Lawrence and Lillian Burke. She was raised in Chicago and moved to Wynnewood, PA and later to Wilmington, DE.  She attended Colby College and Northwestern University, obtaining her BA in Journalism and earned her master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Delaware. She worked as a social worker for Catholic Social Services retiring in 1989. Barbara was a member of the Chestertown Presbyterian Church and enjoyed playing piano, bird watching, and the companionship of her cats.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Gerald Melvin Hanson. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Hanson of Elkton, MD, sister, Beverly Eighmy of Bethlehem, PA and grandson, Matthew David LaRoche of Baltimore, MD.

A memorial service will be held on June 28 at 2 pm in the Chestertown Presbyterian Church.
