Annie Brown Coleman, 74 of Worton, MD passed away on June 20, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Annie was born on January 14, 1949, daughter of the late Carl L. and Regina Mary Goss Brown.  She was raised in Quaker Neck and was a 1967 graduate of Chestertown High School.  In 1969 she married Elmer Dudley Coleman and they raised 2 sons.  In 1983 Annie took the position at Washington College working as the Executive Assistant to the President. There she had worked under 7 Presidents over 33 years, retiring in 2016.  Annie also was a proof-reader for many students and others beyond the College.  In 2015 she received the Presidents Distinguished Service Award and was honored with an annual scholarship in her name; the Annie Brown Coleman Scholarship (million-dollar endowment). This is given to a student of the community that shows impeccable character.

Annie and her sister Barbara owned and operated Women Gone Crazy (a gift and antique shop) in Rock Hall and later Chestertown.  In 1997 she founded the Chestertown Alumni Association, where she had served as president.  She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Mrs. Coleman is survived by her husband of 53 years, Elmer Dudley Coleman: her sons Brian Coleman (Donna) of Union, Kentucky, and Lawrence Coleman (Staci) of Rodgers, Minn; a sister, Barbara Wilson of Kittery, Maine; brother Carl Brown (Anna) of Huntington, MD; 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, Savannah, Emily, Alison, Conner, twins-Alexandra and Aaron, Regan and Hayden and 3 great grandchildren, Marley, Atalie and Kalyn.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the "Annie Brown Coleman Scholarship" endowment at Washington College.  Checks, made payable to "Washington College", can be mailed to:  Washington College, College Advancement, 300 Washington Avenue, Chestertown, MD 21620 - with a notation in the memo line for "Annie Brown Coleman Scholarship" endowment. Donations may also be made online at: https://www.washcoll.edu/giving/index.php selecting "Other" and designating the gift to the "Annie Brown Coleman Scholarship" endowment.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 8 at 11 am at Washington College, Gibson Center for the Arts, Decker Theatre. Following the service fellowship will be held in the Underwood Lobby until 2 pm.
