Heaven welcomed Ann Shirley Phillis "Shirley", 83, on Tuesday April 6th, 2021. She passed quietly and suddenly in her home in Earleville, MD.
Shirley was born on March 23rd, 1938 in Darby, PA. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, James and Mary T. Costigan, as well as her brother James "Moose" Costigan.
Shirley was a graduate of West Catholic High and married the love of her life, John L. Phillis on April 28th, 1962. She made many friends along the way working as a library assistant for William Penn School District. She was a member of many associations, some of her positions included being a councilwoman of the third ward of Darby, a member of the PSCA, a member of the ladies auxiliary of DFP #2 (where the "click" was born) and more recently, she enjoyed becoming a member of the lower Cecil County senior citizens. Above all else, she considered her greatest job of all to be raising her family in Darby, PA.
From the moment she was born, Shirley was blessed with the unique ability to bring joy and laughter to others by simply entering the room. She beamed with love towards everyone she met and saw the world through rose colored glasses all while singing a song.
Shirley had a zest for life and far too many passions to list, but her beautiful smile, quick wit, and incredible voice will be the source of much happiness for years to come.
Shirley will be missed sorely by her adoring husband of 59 years, John, her sister, Donna Costigan Wigmore; four children and their spouses, Dawn, Cherryl McBreen (Patrick), John Thomas, and Nicole; and her grandchildren, Corrine Crone (Aaron), Cassidy McBreen, Cole McBreen, and Christopher Holderer.
It brings her loved ones much happiness to know that Shirley is now truly the sunshine when skies are gray.
Family, friends, and others whos lives Shirley touched are invited to Galena Funeral Home on 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD 21635 on Wednesday, April 14th, 2021 from 4-6 pm for a small service.
