Alfred H. Gooden, Jr, 94 of Cecilton, MD passed away on March 6, 2026 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE.

Mr. Gooden was born on February 19, 1932 in New Castle, DE, son of the late Alfred H. Gooden, Sr. and Estelle Shiles Gooden. After graduating high school, he enlisted with the US Army serving from 1953-1955 with 18 months in Germany.  He returned to New Castle and married Doris M. Reeder in 1957.  His career with DuPont spanned over 30 years at the Chestnut Run Facility, retiring in 1985.  He and his wife lived in Crystal Beach and more recently in Earleton Village, Cecilton, MD.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Doris in 2019 and his sister Eleanor Bookstaver.

Mr. Gooden is survived by his children Alfred H. Gooden, III (Amelia) of Purcellville, VA, Connie Lane (Robert) of Aiken, SC and Margaret Maichle (Roger) of Earleville, MD; 4 grandchildren, Roger, Jr., Damian, Chayce (Amber) and Matthew and 1 great grandchild Roger, III.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 24 from 11-12 in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where funeral service will begin at 12 pm.  Burial will follow at 2 pm in the Chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
