Life Legacy

CPO JAMES L. RIGGIN, 68 of Georgetown, MD, passed away on August 11, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Jimmy was born on August 16, 1943 in Wilmington, DE, son of Norman and Ruby Schoettle Riggin. At the age of 8 he moved to Georgetown where he was raised by his grandparents, Jack and Gladys Lynch. Jimmy was a 1963 graduate of Galena High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. For over 20 years, he served as a hospital corpsman, laboratory technician and a histology technician, stationed in the United States and abroad, retiring as a chief petty officer from the Philadelphia Naval Hospital in 1983. Following his discharge he worked for 14 years in Agricultural research with the Stein-Haskell Laboratories at DuPont.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 125, Chesapeake City, MD, and Elkton Lodge. Jimmy loved woodworking, gardening, watching classic movies and fishing and crabbing while living on the Sassafras River.

He was preceded in death by a son Jack Riggin in 1980.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susie Woodall Riggin, a son Leslie ‘Les’ Woodall Riggin of Galena, granddaughter, Atlantis Noelle Riggin, half-brother Ralph Holland of Alabama, and 2 half-sisters, Eileen May of Rhode Island and Mary Gay Brown of Iowa.

Service and burial will be held privately.
